A self-paced course from the author of Nursing Informatics Made Simple. Five steps. No tech background, no new degree, and no leaving the bedside.
You click through five screens to chart what you already said out loud.
An alert fires before you have even seen your patient.
You document the same thing twice, then stay late to finish.
You've complained in the break room. Maybe you've even told your manager. And nothing changed.
It's not you
This isn't a personal failure, and it isn't because you're "not good with computers." It's a training gap. Nurses are taught which buttons to click. We're never taught how the system works, why it's built the way it is, or how to get it fixed.
Introducing the VOICE Method
Five steps that take you from working around the system to helping change it.
V: View. See the systems all around your patient care, and why they work the way they do.
O: Observe. Follow your documentation as it becomes data, quality metrics, and even your staffing.
I: Identify. Map one workflow and pinpoint exactly where it breaks. Most problems are not technical.
C: Communicate. Use the Issue, Impact, Suggestion formula so leaders hear a solution, not a complaint.
E: Engage. Step into a super-user role, committee, or pilot where your ideas create change, without leaving the bedside.

Who this is for
This course is for you if you're a bedside nurse who uses the EHR every shift, you've never been taught how the system works or how to get it fixed, and you want your ideas to reach the people who make decisions.
This course is not for you if you already work in informatics or hold an informatics certification. It is a foundation course, and you will likely find it too basic.
Meet your instructor
I'm Dr. Sophia Brown, PhD, DBA, RN, FHIMSS, FACHE. I've been a nurse for more than 35 years, and I've spent over 25 of them helping hospitals put technology in place, including a full Epic rollout. I know what it's like to chart at 3 a.m. on a system that fights you, and I know how rarely a bedside nurse's voice makes it into the room where decisions get made. I built the VOICE Method so yours does.
Questions nurses ask
I'm not techy. Is this for me? Yes. There is no coding and no IT. If you can chart, you can do this.
I don't have time. Each lesson is a few minutes, and the practice happens on shifts you're already working.
Will leadership really listen? Leaders listen to nurses who bring a clear issue, its impact, and a suggestion. Module 4 teaches exactly that.
Do I have to leave the bedside? No. Module 5 shows you how to make change from right where you are.
